From the early age
of 4, Sherrisa has always had a keen interest in both the
business and performance aspects of the music industry, and
has always had the lifetime ambition of becoming a professional
music artist. Sherrisa has exercised this ambition in many
different forms, which have included her entry into a number
of highly publicized musical events, which included the 2002
‘BBC Urban Music Awards’, in which Sherrisa walked
away a winner.
Since winning her
award, Sherrisa has been extremely busy, creating songs with
GDM Producers Dollar-D and Silvastone, which were carried
out alongside the completion of her BA Sociology degree. Sherrisa
enjoys expressing her love for music through her abilities
as a songwriter, as she has created a great number of songs,
which have been commended by all who have heard them.
Prior to winning her award, Sherrisa was very hard working,
again participating in a great number of organised musical
events. Sherrisa beat hundreds of hopefuls by making it into
both the 1999 and 2000 under 18’s ‘Rapology’
finals (Choice FM & Sony Music), the finals of the ‘Win
to Win’ UK unsigned talent search, and the semi finals
of the 2001 ‘BBC Urban Music Awards’ (the award
which she went on to win the following year).
Sherrisa’s
preferred style of singing is that of Hip-Hop/Soul R&B
and she has often been likened to the likes of Teena Marie,
Dawn Robinson (En Vogue/Lucy Pearl) and more recently, Beyonce
Knowles. Sherrisa’s musical influences range from many,
for example, Kelly Price, Mariah Carey and Caron Wheeler are
just to name a few.
Sherrisa is an artist who strongly believes that the British
music industry is one which is very under-rated and strongly
believes that we do have the means & sources to improve
the quality of what we already have, and she alongside many,
believes that she has got what it takes to start the process
of change and open doors for many others.
