The
Firin’ Squad first started blazing a trail through London’s
underground club scene over a decade ago. Today they are at
the forefront of the urban music takeover, and they’re
coming at you from every angle.
They have a heavy club schedule that takes them all over the
UK and overseas. But whether they’re playing a set for
a few hundred people in an intimate venue or on a stage in
front of a few thousand people, the aim is always the same,
and that is to rock the party, hard!
And it’s probably the very nature of the performances
that they‘ve become renowned for that has resulted in
many priceless celebrity moments, such as being joined on
stage by the likes of P. Diddy, Missy Elliott and Jay-Z.
The crew also present a weekly radio show on the world famous
Kiss 100, in London. Smooth Grooves is broadcast live on Monday
nights between 21:00 and 23:00, and it’s a show presented
with the same energy that makes their club experience so unique.
They just have fun with it, and their mission is to get the
audience involved in that.
The emphasis with the show, however, is to turn people on
to new music, and also to bring the people behind the music
to their audience – guests to the show have included
some of the biggest names in the business, like 50 Cent, Usher,
Alicia Keys, Sean Paul, and many, many more.
And then there are the best-selling albums. The Firin’
Squad have compiled and mixed seven releases to date. These
collections of urban music have been very successful, with
the four releases in The Very Best Of Pure R&B series
alone having combined sales of over one million cd’s.
Further to that, in 2004 they started to make their first
moves in to music production and remixing. Crafting a sound
which fuses different elements of urban music together with
hip hop stylings, clearly reflecting the musical influences
that they are associated with, it will be interesting to see
this aspect develop in the future.
