Interesting
Facts
At the time of my
birth I was the smallest baby in England (8 weeks premature)
and had my Last Rites reads to me as no one thought I would
live. Oh, and I met Jimmy Saville at one of his marathons.
Biography
First and foremost
a hip hop freak. Been into the whole scene since the early
80's (Malcolm McLaren, Style Wars, Herbie Hancock's Rockit
are early influences).
Have tried my hand at all 4 elements of hip hop and stuck
with the one I was most successful at.
Started off as a mobile DJ doing birthdays, weddings, kids'
parties, discos....etc. In the meantime I was a budding ‘bedroom
DJ' honing my scratching skills late into the night. This
was 1987 and I used those old Simon Harris Beats, Breaks &
Scratches LP's.
Went through many name changes (DJ Arrow, DJ Shadow(!), Kid
Kaos, DJ Whizdom, DJ Beatdown) until deciding my current name
which represents my love of old school hip hop.
In the early 90's
I put together 'Juice' Hip Hop fanzine which I sold mail order
witn my mixtapes.
Met DJ Faro through
mutual friends
(Relic & Lazy
Ace) and shortly after did a memorable houseparty to celebrate
his 18th.
The past couple of years have seen me enter a new stage in
my life, namely marriage and fatherhood which have sadly curbed
my record-buying addiction and limited the nights I play out.
Luckily I have an extensive back-catalogue which suits me
fine as I can dip into the golden-age of Hip Hop or find a
classic break to flip on the crowd.
