Biography
DJ Rob Blake is from London where he still lives and
plays Classic US and Funky House music.
DJ Rob Blake has experienced a varied
and interesting DJ career to date, here follows highlights
of his work across the years:
'83-'88 Playing Soul,
Electro & Hip Hop at private organised parties in and
around London.
'88-'89 DJing on
pirate station "Strong Island Radio" with the "Re-inforced
Records" crew and at organised warehouse parties.
'89-'91 Kiss FM's
2nd Base/Trouble's House (resident DJ with Paul 'Trouble'
Anderson) @ Dingwalls (Camden Town), Brighton's Zap Club,
London Astoria and Brixton Academy.
'91-'93 Resident
DJ at Kiss 100 FM's 3rd Base, playing alongside Roger Sanchez,
Judge Jules, Fabio, Grooverider, and Paul 'Trouble' Anderson.
Also played at Camden Palace, Ministry of Sound and Glastonbury
Festival.
'93-'96 Galax-e @
Cafe de Paris (Piccadilly Circus), Spirit @ SW1, Slinky &
Fruity @ Legends (Old Burlington Street, Mayfair), Club UK
and The Leisure Lounge.
'96-'98 Divine, World
Dance, One Nation and Kiss 100 FM's House Nation at The End
(Holborn).
'98-'01 Southport
Dance Weekenders, Hippodrome (Leicester Square), Bagleys (King's
Cross), The Honey Club (Brighton) and Sugar (Royal Leamington
Spa). In addition to this, Rob has worked with London's Kiss
100 as a club DJ at many of their events over the past fourteen
years. He is an Ibiza veteran and has played in the main rooms
at the following venues across the past twelve years: Privilege,
Terrace at Space, Amnesia, Pacha, Es Paradis, Bora Bora, Cafe
Mambo, Savannah, QPQ, El Divino and Eden. Rob presented a
Saturday night show on the commercial radio station Active
107.5 FM (now Soul City FM) for 5 years ('98-'02) The show
focused on US House, and held the second highest share of
listening for the whole station (source: Rajar).
summer 2001/2 In
the summers of 2001/2 Rob was part of the "Soulsonic &
Izit Dance? Relaxation Thereapy Tour" in Ibiza. Back in 2001
Rob made his debut, and now is resident jock at DJ Helmut's
"International G.A.Y. Happening" Bank Holiday parties in Duesseldorf
at "Nachtresidenz", where 3,000 screaming queens attend.
2002-2003
Progressed with new gigs at Rulin and Soul Heaven
@ Ministry of Sound. Appearances for Rob have also taken place
at Red @ the Fez in Reading, City Loud (with Robert Owens)
and The Gallery (with Pete Tong) @ Turnmills and monthly gigs
at Camden Palace for EHM and Freedom2Dance productions. Ibiza
commitment progressed to a Monday night residency at Pin up
on Platja den Bossa across the whole Summer of 2003.
2003-2004
Rob provided mixes for two radio shows: a monthly
"Labmix" for Wayne C McDonald's Saturday night show on Metro
Radio in Newcastle upon Tyne, and a weekly mix for Matt Trollope's
Sunday night "Club Mix City" show (tied in with my chart in
the Recorder local newspapers) on Soul City FM in London and
Essex. 2003 also saw Rob contribute to "Urban Essentials"
magazine, writing the monthly US House reviews page. Gigs
included a new monthly club residency with Freedom 2 Dance
called Breaks at the Egg kicked off successfully in November,
also a 'House Room' residency rolled through at Kiss 100's
flagship event 'Moondance' at the massive SEOne club at London
Bridge.
2005 Breaks
at the Egg continues for Rob, as does Moondance at the Egg
too, Funk Life in Covent Garden starts up at the end of May
and Lenny Grooves' Champagne Fridays in Epping promises work
in June. In March Rob started presenting a Sunday morning
show on Passion 91.8 FM, playing the 10am-12pm slot. This
is also broadcasted through the internet on www.passion918fm.com
