| Preferred Equipment |
|
Technics
SL1200 Turntables or equivalent, Vestax 06 mixer -05,
07 or Rane Mixer for DJing, as for making music I use
Akai MPC2000XlL & S950 Samplers,
I mix down
onto a Yamaha AW2816 hard disk recorder.
I don't use
any pc programs because I find sitting in front of a
screen to make music rather than using your ears is
a little soulless. |
| Recording Label |
|
I
am releasing a breaks compilation 'Prone Breaks' through
Second to None recordings coming out in late September
2003. I have not committed myself to any one label as
I am exercising my freedom as a producer. Previously
I was signed with my band
AS IS to Catapult
records. |
| Tracks Made |
|
As Is - Loving You / Circles (catapult
records) 1997
As Is - Gotta Have (Readipop compilation) 1998
As Is - Sense of the Ghetto (Talic Compilation) 2000
As Is featuring Rahma Ali- Battle of Wills (Underground
Magazine) 2002 |
| Remixes |
|
Not really to bothered about remixing because
I like to create from new, although I have just been asked
to do some remixes for a US Hip Hop act so I am currently
trying to sort out some legal stuff for that. |
| Break-through Gig |
|
Back in 1986 I played with 'The Sindecut'
(Mc Crazy Noddy & DJ Fingers) which was so good, it
was a local vibe in an arts centre with these visiting
stars but it was 100% Hip Hop culture through and through.
I just got invited out of the crowd with my records and
tore it up. |
| Most Memorable Gig |
|
Damn! So many.. probably the 'Jurassic
5' gig at Readings After Dark club I did back in 1998,
they were just beginning to blow up & I was there
on their first tour. It was either that or playing with
the worlds best DJ - DJ Craze (6 times DMC champion) along
with DJ Develop (the Allies) , L-Fudge and Crossphader
(Rawkus Records) what a gig that was fresh after Craze
winning his first DMC.. |
| Favourite Venue |
|
I would say Pontins in Hemsby where I do
my Dedbeat Weekender Residency. |
| Favourite DJ |
|
That's very hard as I am into so many different
genres and there are so many different dj's that only
play one style of music, I guess it would be Kool Herc
the guy that started mixing and Urban/dance music as we
know it today. |
| First Record Bought |
|
Too Much Pressure by the Selector, I think
I was about ten years old back then. |
| Inspiration |
|
As a DJ I would say Grand Master Flash
and DJ Cheese, as a producer it's got to be Pete Rock.
|
| Interesting Facts |
|
As
well as djing and producing
I am a b.boy
and Graff Artist. |
| Biography |
|
I got into the Hip Hop scene back in the
summer of 1983 when I started Breaking with my old crew
'Circuit Rock' (I still break) by 1984 I had started djing
on a regular basis at my youth club. Hip Hop being made
up of so much musical content introduced me to other genres.
Over the years I have provided dj support for legends
like: Sugar Hill Gang , Melle Mel, Big Daddy Kane, Brand
Nubian, Dougie Fresh, Souls of Mischief, Jurrasic 5, Swollen
Members, Edan, Herbaliser, Scratch Perverts, Company Flow,
Arsonists, Blacalicious, Roy Ayers, Tom Browne, Light
Of the World and so many more |
| Chart |
