100 FM
The gift of an FM radio on his 13th
birthday opened up the world of urban music to a young Big
Ted in a big way. Listening to early 80s' pirate radio stations
like LWR, Solar, JFM, Horizon and Kiss 100 FM, Big Ted quickly
found his passion for music and his love for hip hop.
This burgeoning love lead MOBO nominee, Big Ted to Liberty
Grooves and managing the legendary hip hop store. Later, he'd
go on to holding the fort at the famed Deal Real records in
the heart of London.
In 1996, the MOBO nominated Big Ted began his TV career as
a presenter on cable and satellite channel, Trouble. From
breakfast shows to live video request shows to interviews,
Big Ted filled the screen with Destiny's Child, Tyrese, Damage
and a galaxy of urban emergents. Today, you can catch him
on the Smooth Groves Chart Show (28 times a week) on both
Kiss TV and Hits TV (on cable & satelite).
In 1999 with MOBO 2003 winner, dj partner Shortee Blitz, Big
Ted joined Kiss100 FM to present two weekly two hour hip hop
shows. Their shows regularly attract the biggest hip hop names
on the planet. Five years on, the show has a massive listenership,
plus a clutch of awards and nominations - Best Specialist
Radio Show at the Sony Awards, three consecutive Best Radio
Show Awards at the UK Hip Hop Awards and Lyric Pad - Best
Radio Show 2004, to name just a few.
Big Ted and his record boxes are no strangers to travel, having
made national stops in every region of the UK and Ireland
at club nights and concerts alike. Internationally, Big Ted
has toured Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Kenya, Uganda
and South Africa have been witness to his dj skills.
Currently, his tour duties with MOBO winning hip hop artist
Blak Twang have taken him to stages across the UK, including
festival performances at Glastonbury, Reading, Respect and
Essential as well as Radio 1's Big Sunday, sharing stages
with Destiny's Child, Xzibit, Ja Rule, Mis-Teeq, Busta Rhymes
and Nas.
Locally Big Ted can be found DJing in and around London at
his weekly residency at Trap (201 Wardour Street, W1) and
clubs like Sound, Ministry or Mass. You can also catch him
UK nationwide at venues The Park in Peterborough, The Event
in Brighton and Club Zero in Leicester.
Big Ted is also in constant demand doing voice over work for
TV and radio documentaries and adverts, including a recent
documentary, this year on former heavyweight boxing Champ,
Frank Bruno for Sky.
With forthcoming tours scheduled for South Africa, Canada
and Japan, Big Ted continues to be in global demand. Big Ted
is BIG all over! Now y'know.
